You may recall a few days ago, I made two posts, part one and part two, about how I *heart* my mailman.
Through the course of writing the second of these two posts, I realized that I love getting mail because of a deep, longstanding wound I received when I was but a wee child. I was wounded by a Cap'n. Cap'n Crunch, that is. In good faith, I ordered a very much coveted Cap'n Crunch Stationery and Pen set. I cut out the order form out from the cereal box (probably with a butter knife). It was a whole .35 cents. I lovingly taped my quarter and dime to the form and mailed it, prepared to wait patiently for it's arrival. Well, as you recall from my post, it never arrived. Twas a dark day when I realized that it was never going to arrive. My memory of this event became even more vivid when Lilli sent me a link to a picture of said stationery and pen set. I was reeling! :-)
Well, when I got home from work yesterday, I was shocked, absolutely shocked to discover that after all these years...MIRACLES DO HAPPEN! There was a package with a letter enclosed waiting for me!
The letter reads:
Ahoy there Skipper! Back from sea at last! Turns out there was a bag of mail that never reached us! Many of the sailors had scurvy!
Here's the stationery you requested! Sorry if it took awhile to reach you!
Respectfully yours,
Barthalamew P. Quagmeyer, The Cap'n
And there it was...just as I had hoped...Cap'n Crunch stationery. I felt as if I had been transported back in time! My Cap'n Crunch stationery, complete with an "Ahoy Matey!" at the top! I just could not believe my eyes!! Isn't it amazing that after all these years, the Cap'n came through???
So....are you buyin' any of this??? :-)
Well, I came pretty close to buying this...oh how I wanted to believe I was witnessing a miracle...but there was just a little something fishy about the Cap'n's return address. I was pretty sure the Cap'n still lived on The Good Ship Guppy. :-)
(If you don't believe this is the name of the Cap'n's ship, check out Wikipedia!)
So you're probably asking yourself, if this fantastic set of stationery didn't come from the Cap'n (that little turd!), then where did it come from? This hand-stamped gift came from my fabulous, thoughtful, and creative friend, Tricia! Is this not the funniest thing?!
I still can't help but chuckle at this every time I look at it! It is so clever and so funny!
Thank you so so such for this fun fun gift, Tricia, and for helping me close this chapter of my life. :-)
What a story!!! You are one lucky girl:)
Cheers
Kari

LOL What a great friend! My husband is still bitter toward Woodsy Owl and a dollar he'd sent him as a boy and never recieved the stuff he was supposed to.

too funny! what a good friend. I never sent $$ away in the mail, but I did write to the love of my life when I was 8...Scott Grimes (he was the boyfriend in Who's the Boss, now he is on ER). I got a letter back from him and I knew that we would be married...until my best friend also received the same letter in the mail from him...I cried for days!
