...with my husband! Happy Valentine's Day to my sweety peaty!
So what's with the "I *heart* Glen button?" you may ask. Is it old? Maybe even vintage? Yes and yes. :-) I actually BOUGHT this when we were first dating so that is almost 23 years ago. Sheessh! And you wanna hear something so cute it will make your teeth hurt?! I used to wear it! LOL! Oh to be in young and in love again..oh well...one outta two ain't bad!! :-)
Oh and you can't really tell but in this picture my eyeballs are completely dilated! I went to the eye doctor for an exam today and ordered new glasses! Yippeeee!!! Can't wait to show them to you. They're SO...sassy!
So on the subject of buttons...there's another type of button I want to tell you about. I am completely, unequivocally, and unabashedly in love with sewing buttons! I have a huge jar of buttons that I love love love! I bought them at a garage sale about, hmmm...18 or 20 years ago? An older woman had an old hat box full of them. She was asking $7.00. That was a lot of money at the time and so I really hesitated. I could see she was hesitant too in selling them. I finally decided to pay her price and when she gave them to me, she told me their story. They were the buttons she had been collecting since she had been married. Buttons from clothes she made, buttons she clipped from clothes before using the fabric for rags, quilts, etc. Swoon. She asked me to take good care of them. Well, I have and if any of you have received ephemera packs from me, the buttons that were in those were from this prized collection.
Here's a picture of my jar...
So you might think that this jar would be enough for me. Well, you would be wrong, kind hearts, if you thought that. My Mom recently completely re-ignited my love of sewing buttons when she gave me this collection. The buttons in this tin have a similar sweet story. They are ones she had collected over the years, clipped from our clothes before they were recycled or donated. These buttons will NEVER go in with the other button general population.
After a conversation with Regina about a purchase she made on eBay recently, that sent me off to eBay to start bidding on button collections! Oh joy! I have two coming my way so far!!!! And then, it was as if all the planets were in alignment and the button mothership, once again, called me home. Fortunately it knew how to reach me... standing in the craft aisle of GoodwillI! I found a jam jar full of buttons and a bag full of buttons still on their original cards.
I almost had an out of body experience when I saw these! I'm SERIOUS!. And the extra bit of sweetness about these finds was that I could tell these two collections were from the same person. Some of the loose buttons were the same as some on the cards.
Here's the button spread out in a bowl.
I made a comment to my friend Heidi that to the untrained eye, it would appear that I am obsessed with buttons but I believe, and I'm sure you're with me on this one, that if I am to explore my full potential as an artist, to find my true calling, it will be BECAUSE I keep things that make me happy and inspire me within visual reach! In this case, it just happens to be lots and lots of buttons! And ribbon...and lace...and thread on wooden spools...and scrapbook paper...and paint...and embroidery fabric...and...and...dang! I am so busted. :-)
Oh dear, sorry for the long post. I'd better go...Glen have been trading text messages back and forth all day with candy heart saying, i.e., UR CUTE, BE MINE, HOT STUFF...he doesn't know it yet but the next one from me is going to be, WHAT'S FOR DINNER? :-)
Happy Valentine's Day to all of you, my sweet little buttons!
You're so cute :)

Hello, My name is Smoochie and I am also a buttonholic. Sadly, I knew exactly what you were sentimenting about one button collection not mingling with another button population.
*your text messages are cute!*

You so make me smile :)! I love how in-love you are with your sweetie Glen! It's how I feel about my sweetie too---we used to have our computers connected & would send love notes to one another (even tho he was just a few steps away out in his shop...)
Amazing button collection!

I am seriously green with envy over your button collection.....gorgeous!! The stories about them are so cool too!! My mom would kill me if she knew this, but I sqandered her HUGE button collection on a science project for my students when I was first teaching.....ssshhhh, she still thinks they are "somewhere" in her basement. I really kick myself for that one!!!
Off to ebay to having a bidding war with you on button collections. LOL!!

You're too cute! Love the button. I actually also own a button from when my hubby and I were dating and it says "I "heart" love". I used it in a collage of the two of us the night we met. Anyway, love what you had to say about buttons and am so glad I have a few from your precious collection. Thanks again for the cutie package of goodies. I have a pick on my current blog post. Cheers!
