Been a very busy weekend! Started out with Glen's birthday on Friday. We had plans to go out with some friends on Saturday so for tonight, we just tucked in early and made it a cozy family evening. I made one of Glen's favorites meals - Italian Stew. Oh man, was it a good batch! I also made a two-layer chocolate cake for the birthday boy. Happy Birthday Glen!!!
Saturday I went with my pal Becky to pick out some fabric and paint for an upholstering project she's working on. She's taking a class (I was SO tempted to join her!) because she has two very old chairs that she is completely revamping. The chairs were in a barn on her MIL's property and no one wanted them. Being the sharp gal she is, she snapped 'em up! They're about 60 years old and are still in great condition except for the chair pads. The wood is gorgeous but she's totally going for the WOW factor so she's covering them in an amazing Laurel Birch fabric and painting them a combination of a purple, turquoise, and paprika. I can't wait to see how they turn out! I'll be sure to get some pictures to share!
Saturday evening was a trip downtown to Rock Bottom to celebrate Glen and Wayne's birthdays. Wayne and Becky took the train into town but we wimped out and drove in because it was SO cold! A few snappies from the evening...
The Family G.
W and B.
Dessert....beer, hot buttered rum, pear apple crisp, and vanilla ice cream.
And then a shot from my seat on the inside of the restaurant, looking out. This was just etched in the window but with my flash, this was how it turned out. Totally cool!
Today was another cold cold day. (Dang! I wish it would snow!) I got a hair cut from my fabulous girl, Isabeau and then ran a few errands. Dinner tonight was just Glen and I. Miranda went off to hang with her homies. Last we heard, she was heading to the movies to see "Arthur and the Invisibles." Funny kid. Dinner was another variation of the Monk Bowl served at Blossoming Lotus, one of my favorite Portland restaurants. Tonight's version was steamed swiss chard and kale over quinoa and field peas. I also added carrots cooked with soy butter and brown sugar, topped with a drizzling of peanut sauce over it. Sakes alive that was good!
Better go do my Sunday night prep for the work week. In addition to figuring out what to wear, I also have to gather up my yoga clothes. Gettin' back to it tomorrow. I'm so happy about that! My company has an onsite "health club" and membership is supremely cheap at $20 a year. For an additional fee of $50 a month, I can take yoga classes twice a week. Pretty sweet deal! Plus how cool is it to get in some exercise during lunch!?
TTFN...see ya in the funny papers!
Thanks for the great update, dear sis. good times and Happy Birthday, Glen!
