I struggled with last week's Studio Friday topic but not this week. Black and White.
As soon as I walked into my studio and saw the picture I had painted from one of my pastel classes, I knew what I wanted to offer! The thing with this painting is that I did it from a black and white picture. It was SO MUCH FUN because I had to invent the colors. I used hard and soft pastels and the color possibilities are endless! My pastel teacher, Susan Foley, always says, "If the value is right, the colors can be anything." This was a really fun exercise.
So here is the black and white picture I worked from:
And then, after putting pastels to paper (Wallis sandpaper), this was the finished painting:
Hope you have a wonderful day and a wonderful weekend...in your studio and out!
Lovely interpretation of the original!

That is one of the things that I love about pastels; constrasting the colors really make them pop. Nice job.

I am awestruck. This looks just like scenes I used to see while driving Los Osos Valley Road several years ago when much of the property along the road was used to produce acres of many colored flowers for the production of seed.
